Paralysis can occur in even seemingly minor accidents.  All it takes is a certain amount of pressure or bruising to the spinal cord or hyperextending it in the wrong manner.  If this occurs, the damage is often permanent.  The responsible party should not be able to simply walk away from the damage they caused and leave you to deal with the mountains of medical bills and the potential of never working again.  The party should be held accountable for their actions in causing your paralysis.
